Zoya Alina Currimbhoy
A Visual Artist
As a visual artist with roots from Karachi, Pakistan, Zoya Alina Currimbhoy’s art practice is heavily informed by the discipline of painting and performance. Since graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2017 with a BFA in Painting, her artwork has been widely exhibited internationally. Zoya has first-hand experience in managing art exhibitions and
developing programs as she has worked very closely with galleries including one of Karachi’s oldest galleries, Chawkandi Art.
Zoya is also educator and was an adjunct faculty member at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture where she has taught numerous courses in the Fine Art Department ranging from studio-based classes to theory and research-based classes. In 2020 Zoya travelled to London to pursue an MA in Spatial Performance and Design from the Architectural Association School of Architecture. In 2021 she graduated with a distinction for
her research on how live art practices and workshops are being used as a social tool for
transitional justice and as a tool for the rehabilitation of people who have suffered from violence
through either civil war, international drone warfare or postcolonial trauma. Till today Zoya is
active in the field of art education. In her own visual art practice Zoya approaches her work with
a multidisciplinary mind-set, across a variety of creative fields, to create unique viewer
experiences and dynamic works of design. Many of the recurring themes she explores revolves
around deconstructing the idea of translations, analysing/ depicting moments of
miscommunication and non-verbal conversations. In many of her painting the natural elements
are morphing to communicating a story, often emblematic of a very human experience.
